3 Do’s & 3 Don’ts

2 minute read

It’s important certain aspects of fitness facilities when choosing a gym to join.

With functional fitness training becoming increasingly popular, it’s important to keep in mind the do’s and don’ts of choosing the right gym.

In this article, we will discuss three do’s and three don’ts when selecting a gym.

Do’s:

Look for a gym that offers a variety of functional fitness training options

Functional fitness training is a diverse category that can include everything from weightlifting to bodyweight exercises. A good gym will offer a variety of options to keep things interesting and challenging for its members.

Make sure to check out the class schedule and see if they offer classes that focus on strength training, cardio, and mobility.

Check the credentials of the trainers

It’s important to make sure that the trainers at the gym are professionals and have degrees that specialize in what you are looking for.

Look for a gym that has a strong community and is close by

One of the biggest benefits of joining a gym is the community aspect. A strong community can help keep you motivated and accountable.

Look for a gym that has a welcoming and supportive environment, and events and other activities to help build a sense of community.

If the gym is close by the likelihood of you increasing your frequency goes up.

Don’ts:

Don’t choose a gym based solely on franchise appeal

While it’s important to find a gym that is reliable, franchise gyms typically have their workouts driven by their corporate leaders. This approach lacks flexibility for those in attending the classes and sometimes ‘newbies’ get injured. You’ll be spending a lot of time at the gym, so it’s important to make sure it’s the right fit for you.

Don’t choose a gym solely based on price

While cost is certainly a factor when choosing a gym, don’t let it be the only factor. A gym with the cheapest membership might not have the best trainers or the right equipment, especially for functional fitness training. Make sure to weigh the cost against the gym’s offerings and community.

Don’t choose a gym that doesn’t fit your goals

When choosing a gym, it’s important to consider your fitness goals. If you’re looking to improve your functional fitness, make sure the gym offers the right equipment and classes to support those goals. If you’re not sure what your goals are, schedule a consultation with a trainer to discuss your options.

When choosing a gym, it’s important to consider a variety of factors including the gym’s offerings, the qualifications of the trainers, and the sense of community.

Avoid basing your decision solely on price and make sure the gym fits your specific fitness goals.

By keeping these do’s and don’ts in mind, you’ll be well on your way to finding the right gym for your functional fitness journey.

We have many ExPo LIFE FITNESS members that are obtaining phenomenal results, both physically and mentally.

ExPo LIFE FITNESS #1 Voted Neighborhood Favorite Cary Fitness Gym in 2021 & 2022

ExPo LIFE FITNESS members participate in science-backed, results-oriented workouts led by advanced degree instructors.

ExPo LIFE workouts range from low-intensity interval training, power circuit training, and our proprietary F.I.T. (functional integrated total), just to name a few. Results are guaranteed.

4 Significant Reasons Why ExPo LIFE Workouts Guarantee Results:

  • Personalized training workouts (<8 ppl/class)
  • Education of proper form/technique by exercise physiologists
  • Teach mental and behavioral fitness skill-sets tailored towards your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors
  • Injury-free/Pain-free exercises

With smaller class sizes, we are able to specialize our workouts by combining anatomy and physiology into the “how” and “why” of body mechanics, whereas other fitness facilities are simply not set up to educate their members.

ExPo LIFE FITNESS members also take advantage of popping into the facility outside of their scheduled workouts to utilize the equipment or ask for educational follow-up. This is a huge advantage over ‘class only’ gyms, where their members cannot access their equipment outside of their class.

In addition, we teach members how to stay on their fitness path by providing specific mental skill-sets that compliment their physical dedication; this is one of many differentiating factors we have.
